Personal Projects: Journey of Learning
Why Pursuing Personal Projects Matters
Building something isn't just about the end result; it's about the journey of learning along the way. If you find yourself lacking passion for a project, it's okay to set it aside and embark on something new. After all, the process of doing and learning is more valuable than any final outcome.
Finding Inspiration for Your Projects
Inspiration often stems from our everyday experiences and challenges. Take, for instance, the frustration I encountered when my budgeting app suddenly introduced paid subscriptions. Rather than accepting the new terms, I saw an opportunity to explore a different path. This moment of reflection sparked the creation of my own solution.
Crafting Plutus
Introducing "Plutus", an app born out of necessity, catering to my personal financial needs. It includes features I found useful, such as support for both fiat money and cryptocurrency. Every record written in any currency is also converted to USD to make statistics easier to understand. As I delved into its development, I gained valuable experience with technologies like useQuery, TRPC, and PWA. Additionally, I tried my design skills, crafting user interfaces to ensure they were easy to use.
Embracing the Journey
Each comment about the app became an opportunity for learning and improvement, helping me enhance its utility for both myself and others.
Why Long-Term Use Matters
The enduring value of personal projects lies in their longevity. As creators, we naturally become deeply invested in the products we build, always on the lookout for areas that could be enhanced. Through using "Plutus" myself, I've been able to identify aspects that could be improved over time, whether it's addressing bugs or adding new features. This ongoing process serves to enrich the user experience and ensures that the app remains relevant and useful in the long run, at least for me.
In Conclusion
Personal projects embody the essence of learning through creation. They give us the chance to challenge ourselves, try new things, and learn along the way. So, let's enjoy the journey, follow our interests, and have fun with personal projects.
